About LEAP

Linux Enthusiasts and Professionals, Inc., better known as LEAP, is a Florida not-for-profit corporation dedicated to advocating Linux, We exist to promote, foster, and develop skills in the use of the Linux operating system and to provide learning opportunities for members with all levels of ability.

Currently, LEAP has two regular monthly activities. All LEAP monthly activities are totally free to the public.

Monthly Meetings

On the third Thursday of each month, we meet in room 103 (or closeby) at the beautiful new DeVry University Campus. Please see our 'Next Meeting' page for directions. At our monthly meetings, we hold a short class on a popular Linux topic. This is always quite educational. After the class, we talk and hack Linux. You are free to bring your machines to the monthly meeting.

Monthly Installfests

On the first Saturday of each month, we host an installfest/hackfest. Please see our 'Next Installfest' page for directions. This is a fun time to bring your machine and be with other Linux users. At a LEAP installfest, you can get one on one tutoring and hands on training. Best of all, if you need Linux installed, this is where you can not only learn how easy it is to install Linux on your own computer, but you can also get your own (nearly*) free copy of Linux on CD to take home with you!

Monthly Executive Committee Meetings

Our Executive Committee meetings are held during each month's Installfest, usually at around 1-3pm. The public is always welcome at the board meetings. These meetings are where we plan for the future of LEAP, decide future meeting topics, discuss finances, plan events and discuss roles and duties.

Mailing Lists

LEAP provides several mailing lists for its members and guests. Anyone can--and is encouraged--to participate in the LEAP mailing lists. The LEAP mailing lists are high in content and are a perfect place to get your Linux questions answered between regularly scheduled LEAP monthly activities. Please see our Mailing Lists page for more information on how to take advantage of this valuable free public service.

* Someone is generally at the installfest and general meetings creating copies of Linux install disks. A blank CD charge of $1 for members and $2 for guests pays for the blank CD media.
